LOST. Not the TV show. Me.

I got lost at the mall today.
Embarrassing? Yes.
Annoying? Yes to that too.
How did I ignore all those signs telling me where I parked?
How did I not hear the lady saying "You are in neighborhood 6" when I walked in?
Maybe I was a little too excited to be shopping ALONE. All I know is that I could have done without the extra hour's walk, blisters in my sandals and being drenched with sweat by the time I finally found my car. I even began to wonder if it had been stolen. I didn't chase that rabbit for long when I realized that no one would steal a 1995 Jeep since the bail to get out of jail, should they be caught, would be more than the car was worth! I love our jeep, I really do. I just wish it wouldn't move around so much when I'm in the mall shopping so that I can find it when I'm done.

We had a great time and many adventures including cucumber races, the longest game of settlers ever, crab catching, army man game with the tide, a plaster craft and a attending a sand castle competion. There are many more pictures on flickr from our trip.

Beach Fun

This started out as a kid pool but ended up being a crab pond. All you need is a string, raw chicken tied to the end, a net and someone crazy enough to walk around holding the string! Not me.

Memorial Day at the Lake

We spent Memorial day at the lake with both of our families. It is so nice to just be with family and relax as opposed to our whirlwind visits when we lived in Turkey. N and J both caught fish one right after the other (with Grandpa's help) and then spend the morning dragging their fish around in their wagons. Poor fish. We let them go before they died, in case you were wondering.

Since it was her party, the guest oblidged her and she swung until she couldn't walk straight. She stumbled from the swing to her bed! What a party. I forgot to take a picture of everyone but here are N and J with Mrs. Debbie and the Big Kahuna.

Abla

Sara abla came for a visit last week. She lived with us in Turkey for several months. She became part of our family during that time which is why N and J still call her Sara abla (big sister in Turkish). That was too much for J to say so she just started calling her Abla. That is all we ever heard while Sara was here. "I want Abla to change my diaper" "I want Abla to put me to bed" and the first thing out of her mouth from the morning?

"AAAAAAAAABBBBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAA"

Lucky for J and I- a little more sleep!

Happy Mother's Day!

I was reminded just how much Justin and I love our mothers as I attempted to make Mother’s Day cards for them this year.

First, I stayed up until 1AM trying to make a card with our family pictures on the Walmart web site. I finally completed the process and had the cards delivered to the Walmart near our house.

The next day, I went to Walmart to pick them up, only to find out that I had them sent to the wrong store and they were waiting at another Walmart several miles away.

The kids had to get their fingers pricked that day so I promised them Sonic slushes on the way to the 2nd Walmart to pick up the cards. The button at Sonic was broken and Nathan fell asleep while we waited to place our order. After pushing the button intermittently for about 10 minutres, we went through the drive through.

When we got to the 2nd Walmart, I called from the parking lot to confirm that the pictures were there, before waking Nathan up. On the way into the store, he dosed off again in my arms with the Sonic drink in his hand. It crashed to the ground and the cup split open.

Hero mom moment: I grabbed both kids and the now rapidly leaking cup and sprinted back to the car. Opened the door, and poured the last remainder of apple slush into Nathan’s sippi cup. The crying stopped. Nathan was now fully awake and we tried to enter Walmart again.

I went ahead and strapped both kids into the shopping cart because shopping just after a nap equals an imminent breakdown. It wasn’t a matter of IF but WHEN.

The breakdown occurred just as I walked up to the photo counter to pick up the pictures. Our conversation went something like this:

“Girl, are you the one who just called from the parking lot and said you were going to wake up your babies to get these pictures?”

“Yeah. I just needed to get two Mother’s Day cards. At this moment, I deem them officially not worth it!”

“Honey, just take yo pictures for free and get those babies out of here.”

No doubt she was a mom too.

And you know, those cards were worth it.

It made me realize how thankful we are for the times that OUR moms drug us through the store while we were screaming, stayed up late to do something that they didn’t get done during the day while they cared for us or even managed to save our spilled treat from impending disaster.

So, Thanks Moms. Thanks for waking up with us in the middle of the night.

Keeping us clothed and fed even when it was multiple outfits per day and more food on the floor than in our mouths.

Letting us sleep in your bed when we were scared.

And for changing our diapers. There, I said it!

Maybe someday my kids will be thankful for these things too.
